A 59-year-old woman has been found dead in a forest reserve in Anuradhapura after being attacked with a sharp weapon by her husband, who subsequently injured himself in an apparent suicide attempt.
A fatal incident unfolded in the Korakahawewa forest reserve in Anuradhapura on Wednesday morning when a 59-year-old woman was killed during an attack by her husband. According to police reports, the couple had traveled to the remote location by motorcycle before the assault took place.
The woman, identified as a mother of three from the Ulukkulam area, was attacked with a sharp weapon and died at the scene. Her husband, also involved in the violence, sustained serious injuries while attempting to harm himself with the same weapon. He was subsequently transported to Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital for medical treatment.
Authorities believe the incident may have stemmed from a personal dispute between the couple, though the exact circumstances leading to the violence remain unclear. The Anuradhapura Police have launched an investigation into the matter and are working to establish a fuller account of events that led to the fatality.
