Telecommunications company HUTCH has launched its third eco-conscious retail location in Kandy, featuring repurposed materials and local artisan craftsmanship as part of its nationwide sustainability initiative.

HUTCH has inaugurated a new Signature+ outlet in Kandy, marking the third location in what the company describes as a sustainability-driven retail expansion across Sri Lanka. The outlet joins similar facilities previously established in Colombo Fort and Negombo, signaling the company's commitment to reimagining retail spaces with environmental considerations at the forefront.

The Kandy location distinguishes itself through its construction and design choices. Approximately 90 percent of the interior utilizes sustainably sourced and repurposed materials, including reclaimed pallet wood, arecanut leaves, banana bark, and kumburu seeds. According to HUTCH, all elements have been handcrafted by local artisans, with the company framing this approach as an integration of circular economy principles that creates economic opportunities for local communities.

Beyond its material composition, the outlet incorporates renewable energy systems to reduce operational carbon footprint and offers e-waste recycling services for discarded mobile devices. HUTCH CEO Saumitra Gupta stated that the outlet demonstrates how deliberate decisions regarding energy use, material sourcing, and community engagement can reshape retail operations. The company has indicated plans to expand the Signature+ network further across the country, positioning these outlets as models for future retail and service centers in Sri Lanka.
