Sri Lanka has confirmed its place at the 2027 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup through direct qualification, based on its standing in the International Cricket Council's ODI rankings. The qualification comes as the final spots in the tournament's direct entry pathway were determined, with the top eight ranked teams securing automatic berths.
According to the ICC qualification criteria, the eight highest-ranked teams as of September 30 have earned direct passage to the World Cup, with the notable exception that co-hosting nations South Africa and Zimbabwe receive automatic qualification regardless of ranking position. Afghanistan completed the list of direct qualifiers following their recent victory over Ireland, joining Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, England, and Bangladesh as the eight nations qualifying through the rankings system.
The qualification structure means that other traditional cricket nations have been excluded from direct entry. The West Indies, notably, will not compete in the main tournament through automatic qualification and must instead contest the World Cup Qualifier to secure their participation in the 2027 event. The tournament itself will be jointly hosted across three nations: South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, marking a significant tournament configuration for international cricket.
