The Sri Lankan government plans to start direct flights between Australia and Sri Lanka from August, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath has said. The Minister, who concluded his official visit to Australia and New Zealand, made the important announcement at the Sri Lankan High Commission in Canberra. He also noted that significant progress has been made in bilateral relations with the two countries during the visit. Sri Lanka’s RCEP Initiative Sri Lanka has successfully pursued diplomatic efforts to include Sri Lanka as a member of the world’s largest free trade agreement, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), the Foreign Minister pointed out. He further stated that Australia and New Zealand, key members of the RCEP organization, have agreed to provide their full support to Sri Lanka’s initiative. Considered the world’s largest free trade agreement in terms of world population and total economic output, RCEP is an organization formed by 15 countries to promote economic cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.
