Accordingly, the total estimated cost of the project has increased to $80.5 million.

The project will enable two state-owned power companies, Electricity Distribution Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. and Lanka Electricity Company (Pvt) Ltd., to create a model for aggregating electricity from large-scale solar power generation facilities and distributing it virtually to eligible consumers.

“This project will help Sri Lanka improve access to affordable renewable energy and strengthen a resilient and inclusive power sector,” said Shannon Cowlin, Director General of the Asian Development Bank for Sri Lanka.

He also expressed hope that it would support small businesses, modernize the distribution system, and enhance digitalization.
