It has been decided that the main role of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka is to monitor the legal proceedings in the event of the arrest of a member of the Sri Lankan Assembly and to report to the Association on the next steps. The Bar Association has issued a statement in this regard. Key decisions taken by the Bar Association The statement released above states,
The Executive Committee has not authorized any lawyer to present formalities on behalf of the Assembly during this proceeding.
The statement also states that the Assembly has not decided to make any appeal on behalf of that lawyer.
Media reports have emerged that the Sri Lankan Assembly made appeals during the court proceedings held at the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday (25.06.2026) evening regarding a lawyer who was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
