An International Monetary Fund team led by Mission Chief Evan Papageorgiou will visit Sri Lanka from September 10 to 23 to conduct the seventh review of the country's Extended Fund Facility programme alongside the 2026 Article IV Consultation.
An International Monetary Fund (IMF) staff team will conduct discussions with Sri Lankan government authorities from September 10 to 23, according to multiple reports. The delegation, headed by IMF Mission Chief Evan Papageorgiou, will undertake a combined assessment comprising the seventh review of Sri Lanka's Extended Fund Facility (EFF) programme and the 2026 Article IV Consultation.
The visit will focus on evaluating the country's progress in implementing economic reforms and examining recent macroeconomic developments. According to NewsFirst, the IMF team will communicate its findings at the conclusion of the visit. The discussions are expected to cover reform policy frameworks, fiscal and debt management strategies, and long-term strategic challenges facing the economy.
This September mission follows an earlier IMF assessment conducted in Colombo from June 24 to 30, 2026, during which officials reviewed macroeconomic progress and held reform discussions. The timing also comes after the IMF Executive Board completed the combined fifth and sixth reviews in May 2026, which enabled a disbursement of approximately US$695 million in financial assistance, bringing total support under the IMF programme to around US$2.4 billion.
