India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has held meetings with Sri Lankan leadership during an official visit to review bilateral cooperation and finalize reconstruction assistance following Cyclone Ditwah.
Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri visited Colombo on Wednesday for high-level bilateral discussions with Sri Lankan government officials. During his one-day official visit, Misri met with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath, and Sri Lankan Foreign Secretary Aruni Ranaraja to review issues of shared concern and assess ongoing development projects supported by India.
A major outcome of the meetings was the exchange of agreements for Indian Lines of Credit valued at 350 million US dollars. According to the Indian High Commission in Colombo, these credit arrangements form part of a larger 450 million dollar reconstruction package that India extended to Sri Lanka following Cyclone Ditwah. The funds are designated to support reconstruction efforts, infrastructure development, and procurement needs arising from the cyclone's aftermath.
Beyond cyclone recovery matters, both delegations discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and addressed regional and global issues of mutual interest. India's High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, attended the meetings alongside other officials. The Indian mission indicated that ongoing cooperation in priority sectors was reviewed during the Foreign Secretary's conversations with the Foreign Minister.
