Sri Lankan and Indian officials have initiated efforts to remove implementation barriers affecting Indian-funded infrastructure projects, including establishing a dedicated monitoring unit at the Presidential Secretariat.

Sri Lankan and Indian government representatives convened at the Presidential Secretariat to address delays hampering the progress of development initiatives financed by India. Labour Minister and Finance and Planning Deputy Minister Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando met with Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha to assess challenges affecting project implementation across multiple sectors and identify solutions to expedite completion.

The review encompassed infrastructure projects spanning transport, highways, urban development, ports, civil aviation, plantation infrastructure, housing, water supply, fisheries, and science and technology. Officials also examined progress on initiatives financed through India's $450 million assistance package allocated for disaster recovery and reconstruction efforts in Sri Lanka. During discussions, both sides emphasized the need to renew relevant agreements to enable continued project advancement.

To strengthen oversight mechanisms, the two delegations agreed on establishing a dedicated monitoring unit within the Presidential Secretariat specifically tasked with tracking the implementation status of Indian-funded projects. This administrative step aims to ensure more effective coordination and timely resolution of obstacles affecting project delivery. The meeting was attended by key officials including the President's Chief of Staff and various ministry secretaries from the Sri Lankan side, alongside diplomatic and commercial representatives from the Indian mission.
