India's cricket team will feature the return of seasoned all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja for the Test series against Sri Lanka, following his recovery from a tennis elbow injury sustained during May's Indian Premier League. The BCCI selection committee announced the squad with Jadeja expected to strengthen the spin bowling unit in subcontinental conditions.
The squad announcement also marks a significant milestone with the maiden international call-up for Saransh Jain, a spin-bowling all-rounder from Madhya Pradesh. Jain replaces Washington Sundar, who remains unavailable after sustaining a hamstring injury during England's recent ODI series. The 27-year-old has established himself as a reliable performer in domestic cricket, taking 181 First-Class wickets at an average of 27.30 across 54 matches while also contributing valuable runs with the bat, including two centuries.
Shubman Gill will lead the touring party as captain, with KL Rahul serving as vice-captain. The selection committee has conditional inclusion for Sai Sudharsan and Jasprit Bumrah, whose participation remains subject to fitness clearance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India's Centre of Excellence. India's tour begins with a four-day practice match in Colombo on August 7, followed by Test matches scheduled for Galle (August 15-19) and Colombo (August 23-27).
