Forty Sri Lankan Administrative Service Officers have completed a capacity-building programme on disaster management at India's National Centre for Good Governance, marking the fifth such training initiative under a bilateral cooperation agreement.
A group of 40 Sri Lankan Administrative Service Officers recently completed a comprehensive training programme focused on disaster management at India's National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG), according to an announcement from the Indian High Commission. The initiative represents the fifth specialised training visit conducted under the disaster management theme as part of broader development cooperation between the two countries.
The programme curriculum encompassed multiple aspects of disaster risk management, including preparedness and mitigation strategies, disaster planning and policy frameworks, response mechanisms, early warning systems, and urban resilience-building. Participants also studied the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. During their visit, the officers undertook field visits to several key Indian institutions, including the National Disaster Management Authority and the National Disaster Response Force in Uttarakhand.
This training forms part of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between NCGG and Sri Lanka's Institute of Development Administration during President Anura Kumara Dissanayake's State Visit to India in 2024. The agreement aims to train 1,500 Sri Lankan administrative service officers over a five-year period. The Indian High Commission stated that India announced an additional 700 customized training slots annually for Sri Lankan professionals during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's State Visit to Sri Lanka in April 2025, bringing the total annual beneficiaries to approximately 1,000 Sri Lankans.
