Ryan ten Doeschate has resigned from his position as assistant coach of the Indian men's cricket team and is expected to join the Kolkata Knight Riders as part of their coaching staff.
Ryan ten Doeschate, the former Netherlands cricketer who served as assistant coach for India's men's cricket team, has stepped down from his position. Ten Doeschate, who was appointed to the role following Rahul Dravid's departure after the 2024 T20 World Cup, cited his inability to make a substantial contribution as the reason for his decision to leave.
While Ten Doeschate was initially expected to assume the role of fielding coach, his responsibilities became limited due to the presence of T Dilip in that position. During his tenure, he worked across both batting and fielding responsibilities but did not have a clearly defined permanent role within the coaching structure. His departure comes at a notable time, following India's disappointing white-ball tour of England, where the team lost both T20 International and One Day International matches.
The former cricketer is now set to return to the Indian Premier League, joining the Kolkata Knight Riders' coaching staff. This move marks a reunion with the franchise where Ten Doeschate previously achieved success as both a player and coaching staff member. He will also reconnect with Abhishek Nayar, with whom he has previously shared coaching responsibilities at both the national team level and at Kolkata Knight Riders.
During his time with India, the team achieved significant success in limited-overs cricket, winning the 2025 Asia Cup and successfully defending the Men's T20 World Cup in 2026. However, India's Test cricket performances during the same period proved considerably less successful, with losses in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia and home series defeats to New Zealand and South Africa.
