India's High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, held a more than three-hour meeting with representatives of the Bahujana Balaya political movement, discussing bilateral relations, regional security, and governance issues.
India's High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, accompanied by Dr. Rambabu C., Counsellor (Political) & Head of Chancery, recently engaged in extended talks with the Bahujana Balaya, a nationalist political organization. According to the movement's account, the meeting lasted over three hours and reflected India's broader engagement with diverse political and social stakeholders across Sri Lanka.
The discussions encompassed several substantive areas, including Sri Lanka-India bilateral relations, trade cooperation, regional security matters, and the 13th Amendment to Sri Lanka's constitution. The Bahujana Balaya stated that the agenda also included community relations between the North and South, as well as discussions on India's democratic institutions and diplomatic principles.
The Bahujana Balaya emphasized that the meeting was substantive rather than ceremonial, and clarified that the conversation did not involve criticism of the Sri Lankan government or President. The organization released a statement noting that "the nation must always come first" in diplomatic engagement, characterizing the talks as an opportunity to build trust and long-term cooperation through constructive dialogue.
As a gesture of goodwill, the Bahujana Balaya delegation presented the Indian High Commissioner with a replica of the Naga Raksha mask, a traditional Sri Lankan cultural artifact symbolizing protection, wisdom, and the triumph of truth over falsehood. The delegation was led by Chairman Milinda Rajapaksha and included other senior members of the organization's leadership.
