India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held discussions with Sri Lankan officials in Colombo, reaffirming India's commitment to strengthening ties with the island nation through its Neighbourhood First Policy.
India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri arrived in Colombo on a one-day official visit to engage in discussions with Sri Lankan counterparts. According to the Indian High Commission, Misri met with Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath to review progress in key priority areas and matters of mutual interest between the two countries.
Beyond his meeting with the Foreign Minister, Misri also held talks with Aruni Ranaraja, the Secretary to Sri Lanka's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During these conversations, both officials examined regional and global developments while exploring avenues to deepen bilateral relations between India and Sri Lanka.
A central theme of the discussions was India's strategic positioning in the region. Misri reaffirmed Sri Lanka's significance within India's Neighbourhood First Policy and its role in advancing the Mahasagar vision, which refers to India's broader Indo-Pacific strategy. The Foreign Secretary emphasised the importance of sustained cooperation between the two nations in achieving these objectives.
Misri's visit included scheduled meetings with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, among other officials. The Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, received the visiting Foreign Secretary upon his arrival. Indian officials indicated that the visit aims to further consolidate the close ties between India and Sri Lanka while building on recent high-level engagements.
