Indian pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah faces uncertainty over his participation in the upcoming two-Test series in Sri Lanka next month, with the BCCI medical team recommending he take additional time to recover from a left knee issue sustained during the T20 World Cup.

Jasprit Bumrah's availability for India's Test tour of Sri Lanka in August has come into question following medical advice to prioritize his recovery over a premature return to bowling. According to Cricinfo, the BCCI medical team has cautioned against rushing the fast bowler back into action, citing concerns that immediate participation could prolong his rehabilitation from a left knee injury that has sidelined him since mid-July.

Bumrah has not bowled competitively since India's second ODI against England in Cardiff on July 16, when he sustained an impact injury while fielding. He was subsequently ruled out of the final ODI at Lord's. Following the conclusion of the England series, Bumrah received an injection to manage the knee condition as part of a longer-term fitness plan. Upon arriving at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru this week for fitness testing, medical staff determined that immediate bowling could risk aggravating the injury and lead to extended absence.

The absence of Bumrah would compound India's bowling concerns ahead of the tour. The squad is already missing several key players due to injury: fast bowler Harshit Rana and all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy are unavailable with hamstring and quadriceps injuries respectively, while off-spinner Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the first Test. Additionally, pace bowler Akash Deep remains in recovery from back stress reactions.

The Test series begins August 15 in Galle, with the second match scheduled for August 23 in Colombo. India will play a three-day practice match starting August 7. The tour marks India's first World Test Championship fixture following their 2-0 loss to South Africa in November, with both teams currently occupying mid-table positions in the WTC standings.
