The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has filed formal indictments before the Colombo High Court against former Fisheries Minister Rajitha Senaratne in connection with allegations of corruption tied to a sand dredging project.
The charges centre on Senaratne's tenure as Fisheries Minister, during which authorities allege he awarded a sand removal contract at Kirinda Fisheries Harbour to a Korean company in violation of procurement regulations. The Bribery Commission claims this decision resulted in financial losses exceeding Rs. 20 million to state coffers.
According to the CIABOC, the contract award breached established procurement norms and caused substantial damage to public funds. The case will now proceed through the Colombo High Court system, with legal proceedings expected to advance in the coming period.
