The Department of Meteorology has forecast that the prevailing rain and windy conditions in the southwestern parts of the country are expected to continue. The Department has issued a weather forecast stating that there may be occasional showers in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, and in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts. Light showers may occur in the North-Western province. Showers or thundershowers may occur at some places in the Uva province, Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 pm. Moderately strong winds at speeds of 30-40 kmph may occur at times in the western slopes of the Central Highlands, the Central, Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces, and the Trincomalee and Hambantota districts. The Department of Meteorology has advised the public to take necessary measures to reduce the risks caused by lightning strikes and temporary strong winds during thunderstorms.
