(Neville Anthony) Ireland registered a historic 34-run victory over India in the first T20 International at the Stormont Stadium in Belfast on Friday (26).
Captain Loken Tucker's half-century and debutant Matt Hollard and Jai Moondra's fine bowling were key to Ireland's victory. This was Ireland's first win over India in an international cricket match. And it was Ireland's first win in their 9th T20I against India. The strange thing is that the Indians, who had been struggling in the IPL, surrendered to Ireland. There is no doubt that the defeat will be a huge disappointment for the reigning T20 World Champions India. Only four players in the Indian team scored double figures and only two of them crossed the 20-run mark. India will have to play with better strategies if they are to level the two-match series. The boundary lines were long at Belfast Stadium. The pitch favoured fast bowlers. There was no talk of impact players. All these issues will have to be addressed by the Indian team in the next match. Young storm Vaibhav Suryavanshi was expected to make his debut in the Indian team. But that did not happen. India is expected to make his debut in the second match. Batting first, Ireland scored 182 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs.
Loken Tucker scored 50 runs and Kerr Delaney scored 49 runs and shared 54 runs for the 5th wicket to boost the team. Harshit Rana took 3 wickets for 24 runs and Arshdeep Singh took 2 wickets for 28 runs. Chasing a target of 183 runs, India were all out for 148 runs in 18.5 overs. Abhishek Sharma scored 49 runs and Shivam Dubey scored 25 runs.
In the bowling, Matt Hollard took 3 wickets for 28 runs, Matthew Humphries took 3 wickets for 38 runs and Jai Moondra took 2 wickets for 25 runs. Man of the Match: Matt Hollard
