Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will travel to New Delhi for the 18th BRICS Summit scheduled for September, as India hosts the grouping under its 2026 chairship. The visit follows diplomatic engagement between Iranian and Indian officials on regional issues.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is set to attend the BRICS Summit in New Delhi in September, according to Iranian sources. India is hosting the 18th BRICS Summit this year as chair of the bloc, organising the gathering around the theme "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability" after assuming the role from Brazil at the start of 2026.
The presidential visit marks continued engagement between Tehran and New Delhi. In October 2024, Pezeshkian met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the previous BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia. More recently, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi visited India in June to participate in the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting, where he met with Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
During his June visit, Araghchi emphasised Iran's commitment to regional stability and openness to Indian involvement in de-escalating tensions in West Asia. According to the Iranian government, Araghchi stated that there is no military solution to current crises and that a "negotiated settlement" remains the only viable path. He also highlighted Iran's role as a protector of security in the Hormuz Strait and stressed that Iran is a reliable commercial partner.
Iran's participation in BRICS reflects its expanded role within the grouping. The country became a full member in 2024 alongside Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates. Indonesia joined in 2025, bringing total full membership to 11 nations. The New Delhi summit will provide a platform for Iran to engage with fellow BRICS members on multilateral issues and bilateral concerns.
