India captain Shreyas Iyer has said the conditions in England are more familiar to his team than those they encountered in Belfast, as India look to bounce back following their shock T20 series defeat to Ireland. Speaking ahead of the opening T20I against England, Iyer said the playing conditions in Belfast were unlike those at a typical international venue. “I feel it’s completely different because the Belfast ground definitely wasn’t a stadium. The outfield wasn’t even, and the dimensions were a bit squarish. Setting the field felt a bit outlandish because we’re not used to it,” Iyer said. He added that the grounds in England offer a more familiar environment for India. “Over here, the dimensions are pretty much similar, the ground is flat, and you feel the stadium vibe. The crowd would be intense as well. We’ve played in such conditions before,” he said. India suffered a 2-0 T20 series defeat to Ireland in Belfast, with Iyer acknowledging after the series that the hosts had adapted better to the conditions and deserved their historic victory.
