ISF, a local engineering firm, has launched what it claims is the world's first fully automated coconut dewatering system, designed to reduce manual labour and improve efficiency in coconut processing operations.
ISF, a Sri Lankan technology and engineering company, has introduced an automated system for dewatering coconuts, marking what the firm describes as a global first in the industry. The technology replaces manual handling processes traditionally used in coconut processing, with the stated goal of enhancing productivity and reducing labour requirements while improving return on investment for operators.
The system was presented at a formal launch event attended by Science and Technology Minister Prof. Chrishantha Abeysena, international diplomats, industry representatives, and media personnel. ISF Director Anjula Sivakumaran highlighted the system's development by local engineers and noted that clients in Indonesia and the Philippines have already expressed interest in the technology. According to Sivakumaran, the first unit will be shipped to the Philippines within weeks, with ISF engineers providing installation and support services.
Sivakumaran positioned the innovation within a broader vision to help regional businesses modernise their operations and compete internationally. He emphasized that ISF's work extends beyond dewatering systems to encompassing other stages of coconut processing, including dehusking, deshelling, and paring, with the company combining engineering expertise, automation, and artificial intelligence in its solutions.
Established in 1977, ISF has transitioned from a general manufacturing enterprise to a specialist provider of technology and automation solutions across multiple industries, including dairy, food processing, pharmaceuticals, and consumer goods. The company's stated objective is to assist Sri Lankan and regional firms to reach global standards while keeping costs substantially lower than Western technology providers.
