A Senior Assistant Secretary of the Parliamentary and Cabinet Division of the Presidential Secretariat has been arrested. This is in connection with an investigation being conducted by the Homicide and Organized Crime Investigation Division of the Central Crime Investigation Bureau. He has been arrested in connection with an incident in which an organized criminal fraudulently prepared a fake passport in the name of another person to flee the island. Police say that the suspected Senior Assistant Secretary had committed this crime while previously serving as the Deputy Controller of the Foreign Missions Division of the Department of Immigration and Emigration. The arrested person is a resident of the Kandy area. The Central Crime Investigation Bureau is conducting further investigations into the incident.
