A Senior Assistant Secretary working in the Parliamentary and Cabinet Division of the Presidential Secretariat has been arrested on charges of facilitating the escape of an underworld gang member by making a fake passport in the name of another person and facilitating the escape of an underworld gang member. The arrest was carried out by the Homicide and Organized Crime Investigation Unit of the Central Bureau of Investigation. The arrested suspect is a 41-year-old resident of Kandy. Initial investigations have revealed that he misused his position to commit this fraudulent act while serving as the former Deputy Controller of the Foreign Representation Division of the Department of Immigration and Emigration. He is accused of making a fake passport using the identity of another person and facilitating the escape of an individual involved in organized crime abroad. The police said that this high-level arrest operation was carried out under the direct supervision of Senior DIG Ranmal Kodituwakku, DIG Chandana Kodituwakku of the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau and Director of the Central Criminal Investigation Bureau, Senior Superintendent of Police Kamal Aryawansa.
