JKH has secured franchise rights to bring the American fast-food chain Wendy's to Sri Lanka, with the first restaurant expected to open in December 2026 as part of the conglomerate's expansion into the quick-service restaurant sector.

John Keells Holdings announced Tuesday that it will introduce Wendy's to the Sri Lankan market, marking the company's entry into the international quick-service restaurant segment. According to JKH's financial results for the first quarter of the 2026/27 financial year, the first outlet is targeted to open by December 2026. The company has already completed all necessary franchise agreements and preliminary work required for the launch.

The move represents a strategic diversification of JKH's Consumer Foods portfolio. The group aims to capitalise on opportunities within Sri Lanka's QSR market by introducing an established global brand with significant market presence elsewhere. Wendy's, which was founded in the United States in 1969, currently operates more than 7,000 restaurants across over 30 countries and is recognised for its menu offerings including square beef burgers, chicken sandwiches, and the Frosty dessert.

This expansion aligns with JKH's broader strategy to strengthen its consumer-facing businesses. The introduction of an international fast-food franchise is expected to enhance the group's competitive position in the local food service industry and attract consumers seeking global dining options.
