The officer-in-charge of the Kundasala Police Training School has been arrested in connection with the death of a female physiotherapist who died under suspicious circumstances in the Theldeniya area. The police say that the arrest was made on the charge of aiding and abetting the absconding of the main suspect and his wife, who were arrested by the Central Anti-Corruption Unit. Meanwhile, the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate's Court yesterday granted permission to detain the main suspect, his wife and another suspect, who were arrested earlier, for 48 hours. The body of the woman was recovered from a car near the Theldeniya Hospital on the 17th. The autopsy confirmed that the deceased woman died due to strangulation. Following this, the police were searching for the man who is said to be the lover of the deceased woman, and he was arrested by the Jaffna police. The arrests were made while the main suspect, his wife and child, were travelling from Wallawatte to Jaffna by bus. It was revealed that the suspects were in disguise when they were arrested. The police suspect that they may have planned to go to Jaffna and from there escape to India by sea. It is noteworthy that when the arrested suspects were produced before the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate's Court, they were granted 48-hour remand for questioning.
