The Kalutara Nagoda Teaching Hospital officially opened renovated units and upgraded infrastructure on Sunday, with the Ministry of Health having invested over Rs. 134 million in the development programme.
Multiple sections of the Kalutara Nagoda Teaching Hospital were formally commissioned for patient services on Sunday under the oversight of Health Minister Nalinda Jayatissa. The renovation initiative, funded with more than Rs. 134 million in government investment, aims to enhance the quality, efficiency, and comfort of healthcare delivery while expanding the hospital's operational capacity.
The upgrade encompassed a broad range of facilities across the institution. Patient-facing areas including the Out-Patient Department, main pharmacy, and various clinics received renovations, along with improvements to corridors and two dedicated wards. Support infrastructure also benefited from the project, with newly refurbished areas for doctors, nurses, and junior staff, as well as the opening of a newly constructed minor services administration office. The psychiatric treatment ward and the health education and public health services building were similarly upgraded.
During the commissioning ceremony, Minister Jayatissa emphasized that prudent financial management and strategic prioritization had allowed the hospital to recruit additional essential personnel for healthcare services. He indicated that previously stalled hospital construction projects across the country are being revived, with Rs. 45 billion earmarked for completion within two years. The Minister also highlighted broader medical equipment acquisition efforts, noting that 16 advanced catheterization laboratories have already been distributed to hospitals nationwide at a total cost of Rs. 3,150 million, with computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging machines to be supplied in the coming period.
