Kaspersky convened nearly 90 security professionals and technology leaders in Colombo to discuss the importance of quick response times to cyber threats, as malware detection continues to accelerate globally.
Kaspersky recently organized KasperskySecure: Live in Sri Lanka, bringing together approximately 80 to 90 security leaders, bankers, and technology partners at Cinnamon Life Hotel on July 16th. The event centered on a central concern for modern organizations: the speed at which they can respond once a cyber threat is identified.
Elizabeth Shen, Marketing Manager for Southeast Asia and Asia-Pacific at Kaspersky, presented an overview of the expanding cyber threat landscape affecting Sri Lanka and the broader region. According to Shen, the volume of new malware samples detected globally has grown substantially, rising from around 340,000 in 2019 to approximately 500,000 by 2025. She noted that most detected malware represents low to medium complexity cybercrime rather than highly sophisticated targeted attacks, though recent incidents such as the Handala campaign and Jaguar Land Rover breach demonstrate how extensively a single security breach can ripple across organizations.
Faizan Marikkar, CEO of Safe Project (Pvt) Ltd, provided context on Kaspersky's operational presence in Sri Lanka and shared perspectives on navigating the current threat environment. Milindan Nimesh, Systems Engineer at Safe Project and an expert in Open Single Management Platform and Extended Detection and Response (XDR) solutions, then walked attendees through technical capabilities designed to improve security response. A demonstration illustrated how integrated visibility and unified response protocols can reduce detection and response times while minimizing false positives that contribute to analyst fatigue.
