A fine of Rs. 100,000 each has been imposed on wholesale and retail establishments in Dambulla for selling Keeri Samba rice at a price higher than the maximum retail price fixed by the government, totaling Rs. 200,000. The Dambulla Magistrate’s Court has issued this ruling. During a surprise inspection conducted by the Matale District Office of the Consumer Affairs Authority, this illegal sale was discovered at two establishments in Dambulla. During this, at a trading establishment in the Dambulla Economic Center, one kilogram of imported Keeri Samba rice, which was supposed to be sold at Rs. 255, was sold for Rs. 261. At the same time, at a retail establishment in Dambulla town, domestic Keeri Samba rice, which had a control price of Rs. 260, was sold at a higher price of Rs. 360.
