The Department of Railways will suspend train services on the Kelani Valley line and close the Nawala-Narahenpita road crossing from August 1-2 to conduct essential maintenance work.

The Department of Railways has announced a temporary suspension of services on the Kelani Valley railway line and closure of the Nawala-Narahenpita road crossing to facilitate urgent repair work at the crossing. The disruption will take effect from 7:00 p.m. on August 1 and continue until 8:00 p.m. on August 2.

During the closure period, train services between Colombo Fort and Nugegoda will not operate. The Nawala-Narahenpita Road level crossing between Narahenpita and Nugegoda railway stations will also be closed to vehicular traffic. The Department has arranged alternative train schedules to maintain limited connectivity during the repair period, with services operating between Colombo Fort and Avissawella, as well as between Nugegoda and Avissawella on both days.

Mototorists have been advised to use alternative routes to avoid the road crossing closure, while rail passengers are encouraged to plan their journeys around the revised schedules. The Department has apologised for the inconvenience caused to commuters and road users during the maintenance period and stated that the repairs are essential for the continued safe operation of the railway infrastructure.
