A special meeting on the development of the Eastern Province Tourism was held yesterday (13) at the Trincomalee Governor's Secretariat. Deputy Minister of Tourism Ruwan Ranasinghe, Eastern Province Governor Jayantha Lal Ratnasekera, Deputy Minister of Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra, District Parliamentarian Roshan Akmeemana, Directors and Secretaries of the relevant departments were present. Special attention was paid to the development of the tourism sector to be carried out in the Eastern Province during the meeting. Speaking at the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Tourism said that the tourism sector has been greatly affected due to the extraordinary situation in the Middle East. He said that 768 flights to Sri Lanka have been suspended yesterday, which has affected 30 percent of the tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka. He said that the government is taking all measures to recover from the situation that has arisen in the short term and that this situation will be rectified as soon as possible and the country will return to a peaceful state. He further stated that the project designs related to tourism development to be carried out in the Eastern Province in 2026 were examined today. He further stated that special attention was paid to the tourism development projects to be carried out in the Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampara districts, as well as the investments and land allocation for them. He said that special attention was also paid to the approvals of other government departments related to land allocation.
