Kuwait’s energy, water infrastructure under repair after heavy Iran attacks

Kuwaiti authorities are carrying out repairs to power generation and water desalination facilities damaged in a series of Iranian attacks, as the Gulf state works to maintain electricity and drinking-water supplies. Iranian missiles and drones struck Kuwait’s infrastructure during several waves of attacks targeting countries hosting United States military forces in the Gulf. Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy said fires and damage were reported at power generation and desalination plants, forcing several electricity-generating units to be temporarily taken out of service. Repair teams were deployed to restore the affected units and assess damage to the facilities. Authorities have not announced major nationwide electricity or water disruptions. One of the attacks on July 17 damaged a major combined power and water desalination facility and caused a fire, while another plant was struck during a subsequent wave of attacks. Kuwait relies heavily on desalination plants for drinking water, with the facilities often operating alongside power stations. The damage has raised concerns over the vulnerability of essential civilian infrastructure during the escalating conflict. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said its attacks were aimed at US military and related infrastructure in Kuwait, Bahrain and other regional countries following fresh American strikes against Iran. Kuwait has condemned the attacks and said its armed forces intercepted several Iranian missiles and drones.
