COLOMBO (News 1st): The Public Health Inspectors' Union of Sri Lanka states that legal action has been taken against over 10,000 individuals for maintaining premises in a manner that allows dengue mosquitoes to breed.The Union's Secretary, Chamil Muthukuda, stated that their officers have inspected over 125,000 residential premises in the past few months.He added that in addition to this, numerous public places, including religious sites, were also inspected during the same period.The National Dengue Control Unit noted that the disease continues to spread rapidly in the Colombo and Gampaha districts.The total number of dengue patients identified so far this year is 69,951.The death toll from dengue has also risen to 48.The National Dengue Control Unit further stated that 175 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) divisions across the island have been designated as high-risk zones for dengue.Acting Director of the National Dengue Control Unit, Dr. Kapila Kannangara, stated that public commitment is essential for the control of dengue.
