Australian authorities have charged four individuals following the discovery of two handguns designed to fold into mobile phone-like shapes during a search operation in Queensland.
Queensland Police have charged four men after officers allegedly recovered two specially designed handguns that can be folded to resemble mobile phones. The operation took place on August 2 at a property on Cross Street in Deception Bay, with officers from the Moreton Tactical Crime Squad executing a search warrant shortly after 5 p.m.
The search involved multiple police units, including the Public Safety Response Team and Dog Squad. According to Queensland Police, the operation was preceded by extensive investigations that led authorities to identify the location and obtain the necessary warrant.
The discovery of firearms disguised as everyday communication devices raises concerns about concealment methods used to evade detection. However, the charges remain before the courts, and Queensland Police have cautioned that the allegations against those charged have not yet been proven in legal proceedings.
Police publicly announced details of the operation on August 12, more than a week after the initial search was conducted.
