A 17-year-old boy sustained neck injuries in a stabbing attack while flying a kite in Kadawatha, with police linking the incident to a romantic dispute. Three suspects have been arrested.

A teenager was attacked and stabbed in the neck while engaged in recreational activities in a paddy field near his home in Kadawatha on Wednesday. The 17-year-old victim was taken to Ragama Hospital for medical treatment following the assault, according to a statement from Kadawatha Police.

Three young men arrived at the scene on motorcycles and allegedly carried out the attack. Police apprehended the primary suspect after residents in the vicinity restrained him and handed him over to authorities. The other two individuals involved in the incident subsequently presented themselves at the Kadawatha Police Station. According to initial police investigations, the stabbing is believed to have stemmed from a dispute involving a romantic relationship.

Notably, police confirmed that the father of the main suspect is an active member of the police force. All three suspects were scheduled to appear before the Mahara Magistrate's Court on the day of the incident to face charges related to the assault.
