“In today’s information technology age, students do not only depend on teachers to acquire knowledge. Therefore, the role of educators is not only to provide information, but also to be guides who develop students’ thinking skills, research skills, innovation and social responsibility,” said Southeastern University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. S.M. Junaideen. The Induction Programme for newly recruited academic staff for the year 2026, organized by the Centre for Staff Development of Southeastern University, was held at the Centre for Development Auditorium. The Vice-Chancellor, who attended the opening session of the event as the chief guest and addressed the gathering, emphasized the need for educators to effectively fulfill their fundamental responsibilities of creating knowledge, disseminating it to students and serving the society, as the impact of modern technologies, including artificial intelligence, in the higher education sector is increasing day by day. He further noted that professional discipline, independent thinking, honesty and academic responsibility are the hallmarks of a great educator. Pointing out that the number of students at Southeastern University has doubled in the last ten years, the Vice-Chancellor said that the university is moving towards new developments in the fields of education, research and social contribution. He also said that the newly joining academic staff has a major role to play in this journey of development. At the beginning of the event, the Director of the Staff Development Center, Dr. H.M. Nizam, delivered the welcome address. He said that the training program has been designed with the aim of improving the professional development, teaching skills, research potential and leadership qualities of the new academics. The Program Manager of the Staff Development Center, M.H. Nabar, moderated the event. The event was attended by the Dean of Management and Commerce, Professor Dr. A.M.M.
