A powerful earthquake centred 400 kilometres west of Bogota has devastated western Colombia, leaving at least 111 dead and disrupting major infrastructure across the region.
A significant seismic event has struck Colombia, with the epicentre located approximately 400 kilometres west of the capital Bogota. According to Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella, the earthquake has claimed at least 111 lives, with another 87 people reported injured in the aftermath.
The impact has been concentrated in the country's western regions, where cities including Pereira, Quibdo, Cali and Manizales have experienced substantial structural damage. The tremor has also affected neighbouring countries in the region.
The disaster has created widespread disruption to transportation infrastructure. Colombia's civil aeronautics agency has announced that six airports have suspended operations as authorities assess damage and respond to the emergency. Recovery and assessment efforts are ongoing across the affected areas.
