COLOMBO (News 1st) - The National Dengue Control Unit says that around 88% of dengue cases reported so far this year have been caused by the Dengue Virus Type 2 (DENV-2) strain.Director of the National Dengue Control Unit, Dr. Kapila Kannangara, said that the risk of Dengue is higher as people have lower immunity against this strain.The number of dengue cases reported in Sri Lanka has increased to 75,321.A total of 19,943 cases have been reported during the first 18 days of July.53 people have died due to dengue so far.The National Dengue Control Unit says that 162 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) divisions continue to remain at high risk for dengue.
