The hearing of a corruption case against Mahindananda and Nalin Fernando has been postponed until July 23.

The Attorney General has filed the case under the Public Property Act, alleging that the government suffered a loss of Rs. 39 million by distributing 14,000 carrom boards and 11,000 toms to the political offices of then presidential candidate Mahinda Rajapaksa during the 2015 presidential election. The judge, after considering the arguments, sentenced former ministers Mahindananda Aluthgamage and Nalin Fernando to prison in another case filed on corruption charges in connection with this incident.

In this context, the case filed under the Public Property Act was taken up for hearing at the Colombo High Court yesterday (26). The case was to be taken up for hearing before High Court Judge Buddhika C. Ragala yesterday. However, Judge Buddhika C. Ragala was on leave yesterday.

As a result, the case was taken up for hearing before Colombo High Court Judge Udesh Ranatunga.

Considering the arguments presented there, the judge ordered the case to be taken up for hearing on July 23rd to take into account the pre-hearing objections.

When the case was taken up for hearing, former ministers Mahindananda Aluthgamage and Nalin Fernando, who were named as defendants in the case, were produced before the court by prison officials.
