Bombuwala Devage Suranga Sanjeewa Karunaratne, popularly known as ‘Mattiya’, who is said to have acted as a gunman for the arrested and detained underworld gang member ‘Kehelpatara Padme’, has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake. The 42-year-old suspect is a resident of Yagodamulla, Kotugoda. He was arrested by Malaysian security officials while staying in Malaysia and was later deported to Sri Lanka. Subsequently, he was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers upon his arrival at the Katunayake Airport last night (25). After recording a preliminary statement from the arrested suspect, he has been handed over to the Colombo North Crime Suppression Division for further investigations, the police said. It is also reported that an Interpol Red Notice had been issued against the suspect. ‘Mattiya’ has been identified as one of the prime suspects in the shooting incident that took place at the Gampaha Court premises on July 22, 2022, in which an underworld gang member known as ‘Pasbota’ and another person with him were killed and several others were injured.
