Police have arrested a 40-year-old man in Colombo after he was found filming roads near the official residences of the Inspector General of Police and the Chief Justice.
A 40-year-old resident of Aruggoda, Alubomulla has been taken into custody by Cinnamon Gardens Police following an incident in which he was allegedly recording video footage near high-security official residences in Colombo. The suspect arrived at the location in a luxury vehicle and was observed filming near the entrance to the IGP's official residence by a Special Task Force officer on patrol.
Upon being alerted by the STF officer, a traffic police constable relayed the information to the Colombo Emergency Division, which dispatched a police team to the scene. The suspect was arrested following initial inquiries at the location, and officers seized his mobile phone as evidence.
According to police, preliminary examination of the device revealed multiple video recordings depicting both the IGP's official residence and surrounding roads, as well as footage of the Chief Justice's official residence and its vicinity. When initially questioned, the suspect stated that he was recording videos as a hobby. However, police indicated that his account became inconsistent during subsequent questioning, with the suspect providing contradictory statements about his place of residence and other details.
The Cinnamon Gardens Police Station is continuing investigations into the matter. No charges have been formally announced at this stage.
