On the occasion of the 212th anniversary of the Methodist Church’s arrival in Sri Lanka, special historical commemorations and a thanksgiving service will be held at Gandhi Park in Batticaloa on Monday, June 29. All Methodist and Chengaladi regional churches, as part of the North East District Council in Batticaloa, have jointly organized this event. As an important part of this, a special exhibition on the sacrificial life, spiritual work and social work of missionaries will be held at Gandhi Park for the public to see. Arrangements have been made to start processions from 5 important points in Batticaloa simultaneously and reach Gandhi Park. The public participating in the processions will start from Kallady Bridge, near the Central Bus Stand, Kottaimunai Trincomalee Road, near ETI Institute, and near the Batticaloa Divisional Secretariat. The public is also requested to join this rally. When all the marches reach Gandhi Park, a joint prayer and special worship will be held there to thank God. Many important figures, including the Government Representative, Members of Parliament, civil society representatives and other religious leaders, will participate in this historic event. In addition, special artistic events will be staged with their participation. On this day, which commemorates the immense dedication of the missionaries who, along with their spiritual work, brought about educational and social changes in this country, the organizing committee cordially invites all the public, regardless of caste or religion, to participate.
