Warning issued to owners of unmaintained lands in Batticaloa! Get Minnal24 news on WhatsApp Join to get news immediately 💬 Join Batticaloa Municipal Council Chief Minister Shivam Pakkianathan said that strict legal action will be taken through the courts against the owners of unmaintained empty pits in the areas under the jurisdiction of the Batticaloa Municipal Council with a view to controlling the spread of dengue mosquitoes and ensuring the health safety of the public. He officially announced this at a special media briefing held today, Thursday. On the advice of the Municipal Health Officer and under the technical guidance of Public Health Inspectors, these special sanitation projects are currently being actively implemented within the municipal council limits. Unmaintained empty pits are one of the main challenges currently faced within the municipal council limits. Due to the owners of these pits not maintaining them properly, neighbors and pedestrians have made it a habit to throw plastic waste and other garbage into these pits. This leads to the proliferation of dengue mosquitoes and public health problems. The owners of the lands identified as unsanitary have been identified and instructions have been issued to clean them immediately. Strict legal action will be taken through the courts against the land owners who fail to follow these instructions of the Municipal Council and show negligence. If any of the owners of the identified lands do not come forward or do not agree to maintain the lands, notice boards stating “Belongs to the Municipal Council” will be put up on those lands and they will be brought under the direct protection of the Municipal Council. Batticolao Municipal Council Chief Minister Shivam Pakkianathan said that all citizens should provide full cooperation to the Municipal Council by keeping their lands clean for this project to protect the health of the public.
