In line with the guidelines of the Presidential Secretariat, in the wake of the National Dengue Eradication Week being conducted islandwide, a special dengue eradication campaign and field survey were successfully carried out in the Kallady area within the limits of the Batticaloa Municipal Council today, Friday.
During this event, which was led by the Chief Minister of the Batticaloa Municipal Council, Shivam Pakkianathan, the work of cleaning the drains of the Kallady main road, as well as inspecting houses and public places, was carried out intensively.
Commenting to the media regarding this work program, the Commissioner of the Batticaloa Municipal Council, N. Dhananjayan, said,
Dengue eradication activities are being carried out continuously within the municipal limits on the instructions of the Presidential Secretariat.
Today, officers from the Office of the Medical Officer of Health, the Office of the Director of Regional Health Services, Grama Niladhari and community level organizations under the guidance of the Batticaloa Divisional Secretary, joined hands with the Municipal Council in this work.
About 20 military officers under the command of the Military Command Officer and 40 employees under the coordination of the Chief Engineer of the Road Development Authority participated in this work and completely cleaned the drains of the Kallady main road.
During this, house-to-house inspections were conducted and all waste and containers that could harbor dengue larvae were immediately removed by the Municipal Council's sewage vehicles.
The Municipal Council has initiated strict legal action against the abandoned empty pits, which are a major factor in the spread of dengue within the municipal limits, which have not been cleaned for a long time and property taxes have not been paid.
The Municipal Council can legally accept vacant plots whose owners are not identified. However, as it will take a long time, special notice boards have been displayed at the 6 vacant plots identified in the Kallady area as a temporary alternative measure.
Seeing the warning board stating ‘This plot is under the process of being accepted by the Municipal Council’, the owners of two plots have already contacted us and started clearing the plots.
A total of 22 plots of land have been identified in this way within the Municipal Council limits, and special instructions have been given to all Grama Niladharis in this regard at the Divisional Secretariat meeting held yesterday.
Accordingly, details of other vacant plots that have not been cleared have also been collected and it has been announced that the Municipal Council will take legal action against them as well.
It is noteworthy that the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, members of the Municipal Council, employees, Public Health Inspectors (PHI) and many others participated in this event. The post Special Shramadhana Mission for Dengue Eradication in Batticaloa Cemetery appeared first on Minnal 24 News.
