Meteorology Department Warns of 81% Chance of Strong El Niño

COLOMBO (News 1st): The probability of a very strong El Niño condition occurring between October and December has risen to 81 percent.Director General of the Department of Meteorology, Ajith Wijemanne, stated that this is evident according to the latest reports released by international forecasting agencies.He further stated that the impact of the El Niño condition has already begun to affect the country's weather.The Director General noted that, as a result, the South-West monsoon rainfall has decreased, and the "heat index" has increased.
