The body of Dr. Prabath Dayaratne, a specialist at Badulla Teaching Hospital, has been recovered in the Mapakadawewa area following a joint police-army search operation.

A coordinated search by police and military personnel recovered the body of Dr. Prabath Dayaratne on the morning following his disappearance. The specialist doctor attached to Badulla Teaching Hospital was found on a rock formation in the Mapakadawewa region of Mahiyanganaya, less than 24 hours after being reported missing.

Investigators examining CCTV footage determined that the doctor had driven his vehicle towards Mahiyanganaya by way of Meegahakiula. His abandoned car was subsequently located near the 17th-milepost on the Badulla–Mahiyanganaya canal road, also in the Mapakadawewa area. The discovery of the vehicle in this location provided authorities with a critical lead in locating the doctor.

Police have initiated a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. At this stage, authorities have not released details regarding the cause of death or any other circumstances that may have contributed to the incident. The case remains under active investigation.
