The popular Misty Weekend Haputale festival will take place from August 21-23 at Haputale Railway Station Road, featuring food, music, cultural performances and entertainment aimed at promoting the hill-country destination.
Misty Weekend Haputale is set to welcome visitors for its third consecutive year, with organisers planning a three-day festival combining culinary experiences, live entertainment and cultural showcases. The Haputale Tourism and Business Association is organising the event as part of a broader initiative to establish Haputale as a tourism hub while supporting local businesses.
The festival programme will span diverse entertainment offerings, including DJ performances, Papare and Calypso music, alongside cultural presentations representing up-country, low-country and northern Sri Lankan traditions. Food-related activities will feature chef demonstrations and a competitive cooking challenge called the Kochchi Challenge, while visitors can participate in games, use a photo booth and compete for prizes.
Organisers have designed the event to appeal to families, friend groups and individual travellers seeking a weekend escape in Sri Lanka's central highlands. The festival positions itself as a gateway experience, encouraging attendees to explore Haputale's attractions beyond the event itself, including tea estates, scenic train journeys, Lipton's Seat and the surrounding landscape. The town's characteristic misty mountain climate forms a central part of its appeal.
The three-day gathering offers visitors the flexibility to combine evening entertainment and food experiences with wider hill-country exploration, making it accessible to those travelling from Colombo and other regions.
