Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah has completed his move to Turkish club Trabzonspor on a free transfer after nine years at Liverpool, signing a reported two-year deal following medical examinations in Istanbul.
Mohamed Salah has finalized his transfer to Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor, ending his nine-year tenure at Liverpool. The Egyptian forward arrived in Istanbul on Wednesday where he was greeted by supporters and underwent medical checks before proceeding to Trabzon. Trabzonspor confirmed the move, stating that negotiations had been launched to sign the free agent. Salah is expected to sign a two-year contract with the club.
In a video message released by Trabzonspor, Salah expressed enthusiasm about joining the Turkish outfit, saying "Trabzon, are you ready? I can hear you, see you very soon." According to Trabzonspor chairman Ertugrul Dogan, the forward's arrival in Istanbul had been scheduled for Wednesday to complete formalities before heading to Trabzon. Earlier reports indicated that Salah had considered joining Istanbul-based Besiktas, though those negotiations ultimately ended over disagreements regarding financial terms and image rights.
Salah departs Anfield after a highly successful spell, having scored 257 goals in 442 appearances. He was instrumental in Liverpool's success, helping the club secure two Premier League titles and one UEFA Champions League trophy. During the 2024/25 season, Salah delivered an exceptional performance, scoring 29 league goals and providing 18 assists—equalling the Premier League record for most goal involvements in a single season. He earned the Premier League Player of the Season award, the Golden Boot, and the Playmaker Award, becoming the first player to secure all three accolades simultaneously.
However, his form deteriorated in recent months, with seven goals and seven assists across 27 league matches last season. His reduced playing time, including bench appearances in Champions League fixtures, contributed to a public dispute with then-manager Arne Slot. Salah recently represented Egypt at the FIFA World Cup, where the nation reached the last 16 stage following a 3-2 defeat to Argentina.
