Sri Lanka's National Dengue Control Unit says targeted eradication efforts and community participation have led to reduced mosquito larvae populations, contributing to lower dengue transmission rates.

The National Dengue Control Unit has announced a decline in mosquito larvae density across the country, attributing the improvement to sustained mosquito control initiatives and public cooperation. According to Dr. Kapila Kannangara, the unit's director, systematic efforts to eliminate breeding sites have played a key role in reducing dengue spread.

Dr. Kannangara emphasized that community participation has been instrumental in achieving these results. The director called on the public to maintain hygienic surroundings and eliminate stagnant water sources, which serve as breeding grounds for disease-carrying mosquitoes.

The reported decline in larvae density suggests that ongoing dengue prevention campaigns are yielding measurable outcomes. However, health officials continue to stress the importance of sustained vigilance and community engagement to maintain progress against the mosquito-borne illness.
