While Vanni District Parliamentarian Durairasa Ravikaran has been continuously urging the rehabilitation of the low-lying section of the Thattamalai-Odtusuddan road, which is covered by the water of the Embal pond, under the Mullaitivu Odtusuddan Divisional Secretariat Division, the work to rehabilitate the area into an elevated road with water-flowing structures (box culverts) is underway. These projects are being implemented through the Mullaitivu District Road Development Department with a contract amount of Rs. 2 crore 1 lakh 69 thousand 640, specifically with the financial allocation of the Northern Provincial Council. In this situation, Ravikaran recently visited the road rehabilitation works in person. Further information on this matter is available, The road connecting Thattamalai - Ottusuddan in the Ottusuddan Divisional Secretariat Division was submerged by water from the Embal pond during the rainy season, causing various problems to the public and farmers using the road. In this context, on 2025.12.05, the Parliamentarian Ravikaran Periya Ithimadu Kamakkara Organization had submitted a letter of request. Following that, on 2025.12.07, as per the request of the Periya Ithimadu Kamakkara Organization, Ravikaran went directly to the area and inspected the submerged area and said that steps would be taken to resolve the traffic crisis of the people using the road. Following this, on 22.12.2025, at the Special Coordination Committee meeting chaired by the Minister of Public Safety at the Mullaitivu District Secretariat to investigate the disaster, Parliamentarian Ravikaran highlighted the situation in which people were unable to travel on the said road. It was also emphasized that steps should be taken to resolve the said traffic crisis of the people. In this situation, it was assured in the said meeting that the allocation to solve the said traffic problem would be made in 2026. Following that, on 23.02.2026, when Parliamentarian Ravikaran spoke with the Mullaitivu District Road Development Department Engineer regarding the reconstruction of the said road, it was confirmed that the allocation for the reconstruction of the said road had been made this year. Subsequently, when Ravikaran inquired about this again on 2026.04.03, the Road Development Department Engineer stated that the above work would be slightly delayed due to the current crisis prevailing in the country, but the road rehabilitation work would begin before the tenth month of last April. In this situation, as per Ravikaran's continuous insistence, the rehabilitation work of the low-lying section of the road connecting Thattamalai - Odtusuddan is underway.
