A 16-year-old schoolboy studying in grade 11 died and another student was seriously injured in an accident that occurred in the Makuluduwa area of Piliyandala today (27), the Piliyandala Police said.
The deceased has been identified as a resident of Niwanthidiya area of Piliyandala.
Accident due to loss of speed Initial investigations have revealed that the motorcycle lost control of its speed while trying to overtake a three-wheeler in front and crashed into a nearby telephone pole.
Due to the impact of the accident, the front wheel and several parts of the motorcycle were broken and thrown off.
The deceased student did not have a driving license, and the seriously injured student riding behind was not wearing a helmet.
The student who was riding in the back seat of the motorcycle has been admitted to the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital with serious injuries.
Hospital sources said that the student who was driving the motorcycle had died on admission to the Piliyandala District Hospital.
Piliyandala Police are conducting further investigations into the accident.
